In the hospital setting, the handoff of patient care between shifts can have a significant impact on patient outcome, and the same goes for your chapter. With a strong onboarding plan and an agreement between transitioning leaders, your chapter will remain healthy. Using PMI’s Chapter Leaders’ Guide: Strategies for Onboarding and Transitioning as a model, attendees in this session will discuss checklists, strategies, tips and best practices for both volunteers moving into a leadership role, and those handing off a role.

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:
1. Describe good practices for current leaders can use to onboard new leaders.
2. Identify tools to help chapters create a successful onboarding plan for new leaders.

This session will provide an overview of the finance role in a chapter and will highlight frequently encountered scenarios related to PMI chapter financial management, audits and operational reporting to stakeholders and institutions. Chapter leaders who are responsible for budget development and/or budget oversight, accounting, auditing and payment processing as well as chapter leaders who hold or have held a role related to finance in the past are encouraged to attend this session and contribute to the discussion.

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:
1. Describe how a chapter leader responsible for chapter finances should approach this role.
2. Describe the elements considered in developing a chapter budget.

Learn best practices about the nominations/elections process, challenges faced by chapters, ethical matters, using Votenet, slate-by-position and more. The session will also touch on onboarding and transitioning.

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:
1. Describe the importance of having a nominations and elections policy for the chapter.
2. Identify tools available to chapters to conduct nominations and elections.

In this session, you will learn where to locate and who to ask for information to help manage your chapter and volunteers. We will guide you to key resources; including guides, websites and videos, that are available to help you develop and execute the chapter’s annual plan, understand your volunteer role, and which PMI staff to consult with if you need further support and information.

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:
1. Identify key resources to help you develop and execute the chapter’s annual plan.
2. Identify the PMI staff who can offer the chapter support and information.

Succession represents a crucial process for all chapters, regardless the specific organisational model and bylaw. We perceive our chapter as a complex community, involving members and a huge variety of other stakeholders. What to do? We suggest to refer to PM best practices: strong stakeholders management toward members and teams; use portfolio management to harmonise and track any initiative; be a risk manager in considering threats/opportunities in transition; be agile and adaptive.

When conflict arises among your chapter board, volunteers or members do you know what steps to take and how PMI chapter staff can assist? And when making decisions do you also make sure they meet PMI conduct and ethical standards? In this session, learn the difference between conflict (and what to do about it) and ethical issues (and when and what steps to take).

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:
1. Describe the difference between chapter conflict and ethics issues.
2. Describe what to do when a chapter if faced with conflict or ethical issues.
